On Sunday, October 6, 2013 the Museum of California Design presented its 2013 Henry Award for Outstanding Contributions to California Design to Frances Anderton in commemoration of the beginning of the second decade of her KCRW radio program “DnA: Design and Architecture.” On her show Ms. Anderton explores current design issues with users, critics and design luminaries. Among her guests have been: Frank Gehry, Michael Govan, Diane Keaton, Elon Musk, Peter Zumthor, Paola Antonelli, Thom Mayne, Paul Smith, Yves Behar and Renzo Piano. The Award Benefit and Auction included the presentation of the Henry Award to Ms. Anderton by Sammy Hoi, President of Otis College of Art and Design, remarks by Ms. Anderton, and live and silent auctions featuring excellent vintage and contemporary design, art and books.

The Benefit was held from 2:30 to 5:30 PM at the modern home that architects Conrad Buff III and Don Hensman designed in 1979 for Richard King and Carol Soucek King on one and three-quarter rustic acres adjacent to Pasadena's Arroyo Seco parkland. The Kings’ home has been designated a Historic Monument by the City of Pasadena and will be given to the University of Southern California's School of Architecture to become the USC Carol Soucek King and Richard King Center for Architecture, Arts and the Humanities.

Carol Soucek King is the author of thirteen books on the importance of good design, including Empowered Spaces (1993), Unique Homes (2006) and Under the Bridges at Arroyo del Rey: The Salon on the Spiritually Creative Life (2012). The late Richard King, an international business advisor, was the Chairman Emeritus of the Board of Trustees of Woodbury University, Chairman and Founder of King International Group and Co-Founder of GoGreen Solutions and Business Renaissance Institute.

The museum’s Henry Award was designed by Charles Hollis Jones.
